JAGA promotional literature? & Arf2D2's offer

Postby eggplanti9 » Wed Mar 03, 2010 10:43 am

Arf2D2, a member of PAGA (and of our site as well, I believe) is organizing the Caching with the Conservancy event in May (see big events thread for specifics).

She is listing JAGA as a local caching organization in the geocaching informational packets that she's giving out at that event. She's also asked if we have any promotional materials (pamphlets, etc) that we'd like to have given out at the event. I'm sure that we don't have such materials at this point, but is that something we're interested in... or unnecessary?

I'd also encourage any of you who will not be going to ASP to consider attending or helping with Arf2D2's event, since she's being so kind as to promote our group. There are threads on PAGA (wpaga.com) with more about the event.

I regularly do promotional materials such as brochures and fliers for my church. I'd be happy to assist with any graphic design or information layout. I'm not too keen with the actual writing of the information.

I'm sure we could make promotional materials and I'm sure you'd do a great job, Andrew.

But I'd start with the question of whether we want to, if it's worth the expense of making them, etc. I mean... it seems to me that probably the most effective way to spread the word about our group is through word of mouth, events, maybe caches. Not sure about promotional materials though. Arf2D2's offer is nice, but... I'm not convinced that that many people at an event in Murrysville are likely to be interested in JAGA unless they're already a serious cacher in our region... and then they're likely to learn about our group otherwise. But what does everyone else think on the matter?

As much of a bummer not making stuff is... I agree. If we continue to place Jaga Images on out hidden caches, and profiles, and as a group log that we were caching with a JAGA group, people in the area will know us.

I've been meaning to ask, what is the code to put the JAGA log on our cache pages?

Here is what I've used in my profile:

<a href="http://jaga.geogroups.org/phpBB3/index.php" ><img src="http://img.geocaching.com/cache/3658ec30-b4bc-4204-9ec7-c97ab0a3cd54.jpg" border="0" width="200"></a>

and, here is what I've used on my cache descriptions:

<center><a href="http://jaga.geogroups.org/phpBB3/index.php" ><img src="http://img.geocaching.com/cache/812990fa-3845-4c12-be64-38a488595c76.jpg" border="0" width="200"></a></center>

You can just cut and paste this code to your profile or cache page to gain the linked image.

You know, instead of promotional literature, perhaps we should think about a mascot, or a theme song....

After a quick search of the web, I suggest:

Mascot: Jaga from the Thundercats; Jaga was the wisest and greatest of all Thundercats. He helped the Thundercats escape Thundera. While flying the ship to third earth he died. He often appears in Lion-O's thoughts and memories. http://superherouniverse.com/other/thundercats/images/jaga.jpg

Theme Song: Bananfluer Overalt by Jaga Jazzist; Wonderful song from their new album - One Armed Bandit. Music sounds like ambient electronica meets experimental jazz. Enjoy! http://www.google.com/url?q=http://popup.lala.com/popup/720857428280009179&ei=VGmZS6m-MsT38Ab-kenGCg&sa=X&oi=music_play_track&resnum=3&ct=result&cd=2&ved=0CBEQ0wQoAjAA&usg=AFQjCNH7qphJekdhy2cBE1VTebjABowdQg

Lol. Awesome.
I'm not going to listen to the song right now, so as not to awaken Megan. But we should definitely add those to our GC page - great ideas! If we did have promotional literature, we'd definitely want to include the mascot and song.
Should we just make those official, or do we need a majority vote to approve things like mascots and songs, lol?

On that note, I think we need to choose a new picture for the Facebook group, given that the current picture features LRossell, who we haven't seen since the first event and isn't really from our region. There are a number of good group shots that could work... I'm just not sure how to go about choosing one. But if those of you on there want to vote for which one, I'll switch it (or any of the FB admins could switch it).
