Sat. 1/23?

Postby eggplanti9 » Mon Jan 18, 2010 9:34 am

So I know we just had a group caching expedition, and I know we're talking about the 30th, but... just curious if anyone's interested in caching on Sat. 1/23?

Haha...YES! I was thinking of posting the same thing for this Saturday, but didn't know if anyone would be up for it after having been out this weekend. I was looking at a few caches that are in the Canoe Creek State Park, east of Altoona...there are a few there and a few others around the area. But, if anyone has any ideas as to anywhere else, let me know. The weather is supposed to be decent.

I'll stay tuned to the plans and see if this is a possibility.

Canoe Creek would be fine with me.

The other two things that I've been thinking for possible future caching trips are:
1) I asked Rebeard on Saturday what his nearest unfounds are. He said that they are "Seldom Seen Reservoir" and "The Derelict Still Stands" by WesternPABilly. There are lots of caches in the area between those that I'd love to get (and a few that I've gotten), so that would be another possible area. I also would like to do a maintenance visit on our Penn View Mt. Pool cache sometime fairly soon, and it's also in that general region.

2) Sometime I'd really like to get out towards Martinsburg and get some of Emily, Scott and Matt's caches. That's one that would probably make the most sense to do sometime that's good for all of those folks. But it's something I'd like to do sometime (not necessarily this weekend though).

I was thinking the same thing about Rebeard on this past Saturday with him getting some new caches. So, if you want to get in touch with him (or you want me to?), let's see if he is interested in going out this weekend. Then, we'll make sure to go to the area for him to get new caches that you mentioned for him. If he isn't interested, then maybe we'll go to Canoe Creek or the Martinsburg area (we don't have any of those caches yet, either).

If you want to, that would be great. (But I can if you'd rather that I do).

I got his number this weekend while we were out, so I'll give him a call soon and let you (and the forum) know what I find out. Then, we'll plan from there.

I've got a "Holiday Party" for work this weekend in Altoona on Saturday night. That said, it doesn't mean that I can't do both nor that I am even obligated to go. I'd like to attend it, since I didn't go last year - I think it starts around 6 or 7 and I'd need some time to get ready first, so I'd probably only be able to stay out until mid-late afternoon / evening, depending on where the plans would take us.

I think the idea of getting some new caches for rebeard would be swell. He always comes along on all the other ones that he already has, so it'd be good to score some new ones for him. I haven't gotten anything in the areas where it would be, so it would work well for me, too. I'm not even sure where we're talking about, to be honest, could be a bit of a drive for me...

I have everything in the Altoona area, save the few along Brush Mountain, which I would love to do sometime in nicer weather on a JAGA outing. Someday in the future a Cove caching expedition would be welcome; I think there are a few nice ones around here (the two up on Lloysburg Mt. come to mind, a fun adventure) and probably many from the group haven't been out this way.

The area in question is sort of just east of Blairsville. I'm sure it would be a drive for you, not sure how much though. Probably 20 minutes more than Ebensburg.

Here's a possible itinerary for the day...
meet & combine vehicles at Close to the Den (GC1NQFT), then:
The Derelict Still Stands
Seldom Seen Reservoir
Lookout Point at Dilltown Heights
Uncle Grump's Cabin
A Forest of Huge Boulders
On the Edge
Powerline 276
Penn View Mt. Pool
Oaks Point (archived GC68E/active navicache)
Kwisnek's Haunted Cache

That would hit both of Rebeard's nearest unfound and allow me the maintenance visit I'd like to do to Penn View Mt. If we had time for more, there's various things we could do after these (I'd love to get down to Gray Station Quarry as well - GC1YJDG - but I think it would probably too much), but... they're mostly hiking caches, with a few miles between, so I think these would keep us pretty busy. And alot of them sound like really neat spots too. What do you all think?

Thanks for putting together a schedule, Eggplant. I will be calling Rebeard tonight, letting him know of the plan and seeing if he's interested. If he's not, then let's hold that plan off until he is. I'm thinking that to get all of that done, we should meet early...although I know a drive is involved for most of us. I'll keep everyone posted.
