Caching and Central PA MidWinter Blahs Event on 1/30

Postby emilierene » Mon Jan 18, 2010 1:39 pm

Looks like a lot of us are planning on this event. Does anyone have any plans already set? I shouldn't officially carpool since I realized that I'm on call that day, but I can certainly meet up and drive around with the group.

I know there's talk of meeting in Altoona. Maybe we just a pick a time, and maybe someone plan a run for that day... with as many cars as there might be, it'd probably be easier if we have a mapped out a plan ahead of time. One question to think about is whether we'd rather cache in the areas between Altoona and State College, or if we'd rather skip caching on the way and plan to do most of our caching in that area.

I think meeting and carpooling from Altoona will be fine, and it doesn't matter to us whether we find caches along the way or in State College. The event starts at 1:00p.m., so whatever time anyone wants to meet in Altoona (I'm thinking the mall because most people know where that is?), let me know. Also, I don't mind taking anyone with us, but we do have the "dog responsibility" to contend with and can only stay away about 8-9 hours.

Lol. You know you're addicted to caching when you start talking about caching for *only* 8 or 9 hours, lol.

I'll go with anyone's plans. Erin will (hopefully) be coming with me for this one. So I'll have to see what she thinks as far as carpooling.

I'm starting to look at caches to make a plan for Saturday. What is everyone's thoughts on caching along the way or focusing on State College? Focusing on State College may be best since there will be several hours of the day taken up inside :) and so we can make the most of a town we don't often get to. Thoughts?

There is a great puzzle cache - GC22YKH "Gigapixel (HC Winter Series Cache)" that I'd love to work on for Saturday, but not sure if I'll have the time to do it all. Maybe if several of us work on it we can post pieces of the puzzle as we solve them to see if we get the whole thing sovled in time.

Oh, and there are a lot of caches. What kind of plan should we have - just keeping driving to the next closest one or go off a list? I don't know how many people have to enter coords by hand or can enter a whole PQ at once.

I spent some time looking at caches in the State College area and wrote down the names of ones that we would like to do. I obviously, for time sake, skipped the 6-step multi kind. Also, I am interested in the Gigapixel cache that is new and have found 3 of the numbers already this past week. However, as Emilierene said, it is very time-consuming (and sometimes frustrating, may I add), so I think helping each other would be a good idea. :)
